Need a new glide or foot for furniture in your home or office? This guide will explain the different types of glides and furniture feet that are available and which ones you may need for your furniture. Glides and feet like this are designed for going in to the bases of anything from cupboards, sofas, tables, chairs etc and are used for a number of applications including general height raising, floor protection or noise dampening. Generally furniture feet and glides can be divided in to 3 different types based on the fitting method:
As the name suggests these are glides that are fitted by a simple push in method usually using a pin or peg as the fitting which goes in to a pre-made hole on the underside of the cabinet / sofa / cupboard etc. Push in glides are available in two styles, larger ones used for furniture height raising and low profile glides which are mainly used as floor protectors.
Screw in feet and glides use a standard Male / Female threads on to mount directly on to furniture. They are available with a choice of fixing; as “Male” threaded glides which can screwed straight in to any female thread, which can be pre-existing or added using T Nuts or D Nuts or as “Screw Through” glides which have female threaded clearances. There are also other styles of screw-in glides which are height adjustable allowing for ad-hoc raising of furniture.
Supplied as standard with a nail fitting these can be easily “tapped in” to cabinets, wardrobes and chairs etc. Due to their low profile these are generally only used as floor protection as opposed to being used for height raising. The tap in glides are available in 3 finishes, standard nylon, felt based or chrome capped for different applications.
